What Is Microneedling? Benefits, Results & What to Expect

Microneedling is one of the most effective treatments for improving skin texture, reducing scars, and stimulating collagen. We explain exactly how it works, who it's for, and what real results look like.

How Microneedling Works

Microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy) uses a device with ultra-fine needles to create thousands of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin's surface. These micro-injuries trigger the skin's natural healing response — stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.

The result? Smoother, firmer, more even-toned skin over the weeks following treatment.

What Microneedling Treats

  • Acne scarring — breaks down scar tissue and stimulates collagen remodelling
  • Fine lines and wrinkles — plumps the skin through new collagen production
  • Enlarged pores — reduces the appearance through skin remodelling
  • Uneven skin tone — improves overall radiance and evenness
  • Stretch marks — stimulates tissue repair in the deeper layers
  • General skin renewal — improves texture and luminosity for all skin types

What to Expect During the Treatment

At L'Adore Clinic, our Pro Microneedling facial is performed as part of the Dermalogica professional range. We begin with a skin analysis, apply a topical numbing cream (for deeper treatments), and then perform the microneedling over the face.

The treatment takes approximately 60 minutes. Most clients experience mild redness for 24–48 hours, similar to a light sunburn. There is no significant downtime.

Before & After Microneedling

  • Avoid retinol and AHAs for 5 days before
  • Stay out of the sun for 48 hours before
  • Do not have recent active breakouts treated (we'll adjust the protocol)
  • Keep skin cool and hydrated
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 48 hours (use SPF 30+)
  • Don't use active ingredients for 3–5 days
  • Expect visible improvement over 4–6 weeks as collagen rebuilds

How Many Sessions?

For most concerns, we recommend a course of 3–6 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. Results are cumulative — each session builds on the last.

Maintenance sessions every 3–6 months are recommended to sustain long-term results.
